all Fords prior to 1977 used type F.
Update:
Type FA.
Unfortunately, Type FA is very difficult to find, and I think Valvoline is the only maker now. Most folks nowadays use Type F for their old T-Birds. Some use Mercon. Either way, if you're unsure which type of fluid may be in your '64, I would suggest draining the Transmission Fluid and using Type F. Drain the the converter as well. If your transmission has recently been rebuilt, you can use Mercon.
Note: The Power Steering for this vehicle is designed for Type A Transmission fluid as well. Using regular power steering fluid or a synthetic fluid will usually cause leaks as these fluids are too thin.
In 1992 the Ford installed manual transmissions in the Super Coupe ONLY, automatic was an extra cost option. Thunderbird, Thunderbird Sport, and Thunderbird LX, in V-6 or V-8 had automatic transmissions ONLY.
If it has an automatic transmission, it should have a dipstick on the passenger side, under the hood, near the firewall. If it has a manual transmission, no dipstick.
More than the actual value of your car. definitely.
Converting a manual transmission to automatic transmission is not possible but you can replace a manual transmission to an automativ transmission . That is also an expensive deal.
The ECU for an automatic can be used in a manual transmission. However, it will not work vice-versa with the ECU from a manual transmission in an automatic.
manual
Ford specifies Mercon Automatic Transmission fluid in the manual trans.
If you buy a standard then it will be a manual transmission. If you buy an automatic, then it will be automatic.
MANUAL TRANSMISSION because its more powerful and quicker then a automatic. Your muscle car will not have muscle without a manual transmission
Automatic.Automatic.
You do not say if it is a manual or automatic transmission. Automatic trans will take mercon V (all ford products that took mercon will now go to mercon V as mercon will no longer be made by ford)
