The Democratic Republic of Congo has a Command economy. Which mean that the power to run the economy is held in the hands of an elite group that makes all the decisions The reason for this type of economy is because of the Dictatorship of Mobutu that lasted for more then 35 years. Even though Mobutu is not in power anymore it is hard for the economy to grow because the main source of income, which are the mines, are owned by government agencies. So even thought the country itself has Natural Resources in abundance, the people do not get any of that money because of the people who are running the economy.
