Any lunge will develop and tone the muscles of the butt and thigh. I love this exercise as it also develops the core muscles and the smaller stabalizing muscles that are often neglected. If you want to increase the muscle mass, you may need to add weights to your lunge exercise to increase the stressors on the muscle (that's what will build it). Be sure to eat well too though or you won't give your body what it needs to build strong muscles quickly. Finally, if you can do it, do your lunges without support from a wall or weight machine as this increases the work on all those stabalizing muscles I was talking about.
