What is meant by valve hunting?

Ideally, the valve should settle into a single position once setpoint is reached. A hunting valve over-controls, or goes too far, then reverses in an attempt to the correct overshoot, but goes too far, reverses direction again, and constantly repeats this cycle. A hunting valve results in poor control, and prematurely wears out the valve's mechanical parts. Hunting is usually indicative of loop gain too high (PID gain + process gain), or a valve that is oversized for the intended flow, or noisy input signal, or a PID integral term too small.


What is isolator with earth switch?

A disconnector or isolator switch is used to make sure that an electrical circuit can be completely de-energised for service or maintenance. Such switches are often found in electrical distribution and industrial applications where machinery must have its source of driving power removed for adjustment or repair. High-voltage isolation switches are used in electrical substations to allow isolation of apparatus such as circuit breakers and transformers, and transmission lines, for maintenance. Often the isolation switch is not intended for normal control of the circuit and is used only for isolation; in such a case, it functions as a second, usually physically distant master switch (wired in series with the primary one) that can independently disable the circuit even if the master switch used in everyday operation is turned on.Isolator switches have provisions for a padlock so that inadvertent operation is not possible (see: Lockout-Tagout). In high voltage or complex systems, these padlocks may be part of a trapped-key interlock system to ensure proper sequence of operation. In some designs the isolator switch has the additional ability to earth the isolated circuit thereby providing additional safety. Such an arrangement would apply to circuits which inter-connect power distribution systems where both end of the circuit need to be isolated.The major difference between an isolator and a circuit breaker is that an isolator is an off-load device intended to be opened only after current has been interrupted by some other control device. Safety regulations of the utility must prevent any attempt to open the disconnector while it supplies a circuit.Standards in some countries for safety may require either local motor isolators or lockable overloads (which can be padlocked).

There are four types of layouts process layout, product layout, project layout and cellular layout. 1. Process Layout:- It is also called functioanl layout. It is generally associated with batch production. Factory is divided into similar process units. and with in these similar process units all similar facilities are groped together. Product layout:- It is also called line layout. the layout plant, size and shape of building, location and shape of storage yard, position of material handling equipment is such that material is flowed in one direction at the steady rate. All equipments and machines used in this process are of special type and highly trained labor is used in this layout. Examples are assembly lines of automobiles, refrigerators, radio, televisions and air conditioners. 3.Project layout:- It is also called fixed position layout. in this type of layout procut to be produced remain at fixed position and machine,material and man are brought at the asssimbly position. Examples Aeroplane, ships and heavy machines. 4. Cellular Layouts:- Primarily this type of layout is an attempt to reduce the complexity of process layouts. It divides transforming resource up into small clusters which can be used to act upon different products or product groups. Within each cell layout can be almost identical to product layout

Value engineering is an approach to productivity improvement that attempts to increase the value obtained by a customer of a product by offering the same level of functionality at a lower cost. Value engineering is sometimes used to apply to this process of cost reduction prior to manufacture, while "value analysis" applies the process to products currently being manufactured. Both attempt to eliminate costs that do not contribute to the value and performance of the product (or service, but the approach is more common in manufacturing). Different types of value are recognised by the approach : Use value relates to the attributes of a product which enable it to perform its function. Pareto analysis is often used to prioritise those parts of the total design that are most worthy of attention. These are then subject to rigorous scrutiny. The team analyses the function and cost of those elements and tries to find any similar components that could do the same job at lower cost. Common results are a reduction in the number of components, the use of cheaper materials, or a simplification of the process.
