Sam Houston wanted Texas to be Independent from Mexico. North-American Free-Masons joined with Mexican Free-Masons to make an Agreement, in this "Agreement" Mexicans saw themselves forced to give up their lands after several threats coming from the Americans. Mexicans couldn't do much about it and they had to give their lands.

Houston confronted him in Washington DC and beat him soundly with his hickory cane. Houston was found guilty of assault and refused to pay the $500 fine and absconded to the Mexican State of Tejas.
