His first WWF/E belt came at Saturday Night's Main Event on October 27, 1992, when he defeated The British Bulldog for the Intercontinental Title. The Rockers, consisting of Michaels and partner Marty Janetty, won the tag team titles from The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) in October 1990 during a television taping. But since there were technical difficulties during the match (the top ring rope broke), the decision was made to not air the match, and the title swap was never officially recognized.
His first World championship came at WrestleMania XII on march 31, 1996, when he defeated Bret Hart in a 60-minute Iron Man Match.
