Bad for the people who weren't Muslim because of the battles to expand Islam.
Islam is a religion. It was not 'founded'. Almighty God sent about 1,25,000 Prophets for the guidance of human beings. All of them preached Islam - Tauheed or ONENESS of Almighty God being its basic belief.
People of Arabian Peninsula worshiped idols, though they knew about Almighty God. People of Makka had placed 360 idols in the holy Ka'aba, each tribe worshiping its own god represented in the form of an idol.
The Arabian society was suffering from all kinds of social evils like injustice, illiteracy, ignorance, oppression, adultery, cruelty and exploitation.
