On August 23, 1939, Stalin and Hitler entered into a non-aggression pact between Germany and the Soviet Union. This pact shocked the world, but it satisfied the needs of both sides. For example, a pact with the Soviet Union played to Hitler's belief that the United Kingdom would not attack Berlin if it were protected by the Society Union, thereby playing on the fears of communism.

On paper it was a simple non-aggression pact, but each side had their own hidden agenda. The Soviets saw this as opportunity annex the Baltic states, while Hitler moved into Poland without provoking Soviet resistance. However, it is safe to assume that both parties knew that conflict was eminent and Hitler eventually invaded the Soviet Union.

How did Stalin justify the USSR's Nonaggression Pact with Hitler in 1939?

As far as Joseph Stalin was concerned, England, France and the United States had been plotting an imperialist war with Germany in the 1930's. Allied attempts in that period of time to make an alliance with the USSR were ruses. In order to protect the Soviet Union, Stalin signed the German-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact in 1939.

What statement by Adolph Hitler in 1928 should have alerted Stalin to make a deal with England and France rather than agree to the Soviet -German Nonaggression Pact of 1939?

In 1928, the Nazi Party was not in power in Germany. During that year, Hitler stated that his National Socialist movement and Germany's foreign policy had to be concerned with territory in the East to secure the life of the German people. By ignoring this Stalin lay way to the invasion of the USSR by Germany. The eastern lands needed by Germany were not only Poland but the Ukraine.

Did Hitler or Stalin or Mussolini kill the most people?

Hitler was directly responsible for the death of about 11-12 million people. Mussolini was directly responsible for the death of only a few hundred thousand. Stalin was directly responsible for somewhere between 15-20 million. However, where the question is unclear if the fact that Hitler started the war, therefore you could hold him indirectly accountable for most all of the deaths in the European Theatre of Operations. World War 2 deaths in the Pacific campaigns may be laid at the feet of the Japanese Empire, since it needed no prodding from Hitler to do the killing it did. Japan took control of Manchuria and invaded China in 1937, two years before Hitler invaded Poland on September 1, 1939. Japan did not even join the Axis powers until September 1940. Directly, Stalin was responsible for the most deaths. However, Hitler's actions caused many in World War 2, and Mussolini was his ally. Stalin was a defensive nation. By that I mean they were attacked. Therefore, you could make the argument had Hitler not attacked the USSR none or very few of the deaths would have occurred. However, the other side of that argument is that the Soviet Union's was not a defensive war at all at least until Hitler double-crossed Stalin and invaded Russia. In fact, Stalin had already started his own invasions of friendly countries months before Hitler attacked it. Follow this sequence: In August, 1939, Stalin enters into a Non-Agression Pact with Hitler. On September 1, 1939, with no provocation, Hitler invades Poland. On September 17, 1939 (16 days later) with no provocation, Stalin invades Poland. Part of the N-A Pact that was kept secret was that Stalin had agreed with Hitler to conquer Poland together and divide it between them. On November 30, 1939, two months later, with no provocation, Stalin invades Finland beginning the Russian-Finland War. On June 18, 1940, with no provocation, Stalin invades Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. On June 22, 1941, one full year later, with no provocation, Hitler attacks the Soviet Union. A defensive war on Stalin's part? No. Is Hitler responsible for deaths caused by Russian soldiers in Poland, Finland, Latvia, Lithania and Estonia one year before Hitler attacks Russia? No. These acts of war were against countries that were then at peace with the Soviet Union just as much as Poland was at peace with Germany when Germany invaded it. They were offensive and aggressive actions taken against peaceful nations. Any deaths caused by them rests squarely on the shoulders of Joseph Stalin.

How did Stalin Hitler and Mussolini use the secret police?

Stalin : He used the secret police to spy on people who threatened his authority. He also killed people in his own party because his power was somewhat sacred to him. Why did Hitler break the non aggression pact with Stalin?

The non- aggression pact was formed, primarily because Hitler knew the German military would be unable to support and sustain fighting on 2 fronts. Hitler needed all his resources to fight the Allied forces in Western Europe, and that if he had to fight a soviet attack from the east at the same time, he didn't have enough men and equipment to do so.

Generally speaking both Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union under Stalin were dictatorships that permitted no free speech or other political parties to exist. In Germany only the Nazi Party was legal and under Stalin only the Communist Party under the rule of Stalin was allowed.
