Well Vietnam was 'French Indo-China' at the time. After the German victory in the Battle of France, the Germans installed the Vichy government which cooperated with the Japanese. The Japanese allowed the Vichy French to adminster the region, but this is where nationalists like Ho Chi Minh emerge who fought not only the Japanese but also the French.

Japan surrendered, then there was peace in the Far East. Japan invaded many countries during WWII much like Hitler. Japan's military was immobilized forever. Then they couldn't do a thing. So they started "invading" a different way, financially, selling electronics, game systems, and cars, etc... Most of the East Asia was trying to recover from losses from the war. Mainland China got taken over by the Communist after fighting off the Japanese with the Nationalist which fled to Taiwan, ROC.
