Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were persecuted for their beliefs and were driven out of their homes and property in Ohio, Missouri and Illinois. They crossed the plains to find a place where they would be safer and could practice their religion according to their beliefs. When these "Mormon" pioneers reached the Salt Lake valley, their leader, Brigham Young, pronounced that "This is the Right Place". The Mormon pioneers, subsequently, began to settle the sparcely populated land named Utah in July of 1847.
The goal of all Mormons, according to a published revelation given to Joseph Smith, is the same as the goal of God: "To bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man" (Moses 1:39). It is in this way that an individual may become closer to and indeed one with God - in working through Him to accomplish His goal of the salvation and exaltation of all His children. This is the reason behind everything that Mormons do, from missionary work to community service to Temple ceremonies to strengthening families - it is all about uplifting those that we come in contact with in hopes that it will bring them (and us) closer to God and thus salvation.
Joseph Smith believed that the goal for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) and indeed all mankind is eternal life with God. Mormons believe that the purpose of life is to become one with God in His purpose of bringing to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. This is the reason behind everything that Mormons do, from community service to preaching to raising families - it all helps them to better understand God and brings others closer to Him.

Utah.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (commonly called the "Mormons") migrated west and settled in what is now Utah (along with parts of Idaho, Arizona, Wyoming, and Nevada) and which then was part of Mexico. They arrived in 1847 and are still the dominant religious group in the area today.
The Mormons created a community in Utah because they were repeatedly persecuted in the populated parts of the U.S. Utah was pretty much devoid of people when they settled there, so there was no one to persecute them.
Utah was settled by Mormons.
Mormons founded Salt Lake City, Utah, the capital of Utah. Actually, they founded the whole state of Utah...
The Mormons were searching for a place where they could practice their religion in peace and found that place in Utah.
When the Mormon Pioneers migrated to Salt Lake City Utah, Brigham Young, the prophet received a revelation from God that he should construct a temple there...the Salt Lake Temple. It is the place Mormons make sacred covenants with the Lord. It truly is a blessing.
Due to severe religious persecution, the Mormons abandoned their settlements in the Midwest and migrated to the west. They settled in Utah and surrounding regions, developed the land and towns and cities there, and eventually those regions became states in the Union, thus expanding the US.
Some say that the Mormons had to denounce polygamy before Utah became a state. This may or may not be true, as the plans to make Utah a state were in action before the Church officially denounced polygamy. Either way, Mormons arrived there in 1847, Utah became a territory in 1850, Mormons ended polygamy in 1890, and Utah became a state in 1896.
Utah is known for its snow, mormons, and beautiful national parks.
