there is no such thing as greater syria. the SSNP or syrian socialist party have a theory that modern day Lebanon, israel, palestine, parts of rurkey and Jordan and even Cyprus were once a part of what they call greater syria.
Specifically, it began in Jerusalem, Israel. Generally speaking 'Palestine' is between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River - as a crossroad between religion, culture, commerce and politics.
They first called it Canaan, then the Land of Israel, then Israel & Judea, then it was united back to Israel, then The Romans renamed it Palestine, then the Modern Jews named it the State of Israel.
The tension have started mainly from founding Israel in an area which includes both Jewish and Arab people. The countries in this area are associated with religions, and so there was a fight for the shared territory. The tension is also caused from the difference in religions themselves, there are areas in Israel sacred to all three religions, and there is an argument who should occupy them. The main formal motive of Israel is self defense, while the Arabs around it have different reasons. In Gaza they call for independency and equal rights. In Lebanon they want Israel to allow Palestine people from Lebanon to live in Israel, an so on. My personal opinion: There is a lot of suffering in the middle east, and suffering makes you look for someone to blame. It's easier to hate the ones who are different.
The question is based on an incorrect supposition, namely that "Palestine" means "home of the Jews". Palestine was the Roman name for the territory and referred to the Philistines, who had been historic enemies of the Jewish Kingdoms in the area. The Palestinians use the terms "Palestinian" and "Palestine" because those were the terms used by the colonial forces. Prior to the arrival of British and French colonization of the Levant, people in Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria all called themselves "Shamite" which is usually translated as "Greater Syrian". After colonization, each began to identify with the territorial boundaries of the various new mandates.
They both claimed Mandatory Palestine, which is currently controlled by the States of Israel, the Palestinian Authority, and what Egyptian Generals call "Hamas-stan".
For most of the Twentieth Century (since 1948), the Jewish areas were called Israel and The Muslim areas were called "the Occupied Territories" or the "Palestinian Territories. The original plan was for the Palestinian territories to be called "Palestine" and be set up as in independent country, but the Palestinians rejected this plan. Prior to 1948, the entire area was called Palestine, though it was never under Palestinian rule. In 1948, the Palestinians almost had the chance for self-determination for the first time ever.
No there is not even a modern warfare for PS2
Answer 1The PLO wanted to take (not back) Israel and impose a non-democratic rule. The Jewish state, as defined by the Paris agreement which concluded with the league of nations and the Mandate to Britain to "establish a Jewish state" would be nullified, and in the PLO's base articles, Jews do not have the right to own property. In actual fact, most of those that call themselves Palestinian are from Syria and Egypt, where their ancestors were brought to the Land of Israel in the 19th Century to populate the land. The founder of the PLO, was born in Egypt.Answer 2Palestine is the area between Lebanon and Egypt. It, before occupation, belonged to the Muslims and Christian Arabs of Palestine. It was then devoured by the British army after the Paris agreement. Jewish settlers have been in Palestine, now known as Israel, and Palestine and its allies have launched minor attacks on Israel. In conclusion, the PLO attempted to regain Palestine from the Zionists.
Split the nations up into what we now call Israel, Palestine, and what we now call the league of a Arab Nations.
The land of Canaan, now known as Israel/Palestine, according to the Bible. The Bible nowhere uses the name "Palestine" (and should not be used on any Bible map). "Provincia Syria Palestina" was coined by the Roman Emperor Hadrian (in AD135) as a derogatory term against the Israelites, renaming their homeland after Israel's ancient nemeses the Philistines. To call any part of Israel "Palestine" is to imply that the land belongs to the Philistines who no longer exist.
Answer 1There is no Israel its Palestine.Answer 2It depends on the Muslim. Most Arab-Israelis are Muslim and call the State of Israel as "Israel", even if they object to the policies of that state (like Hanin Zoabi). Additionally, most Muslim intellectuals in Western countries or liberal leanings call the area Israel. Most Muslims outside of Israel call the land "Palestine" and call the government "the Zionist Entity" or the "Jewish State".
