The only alternate titles were Petrograd ( Peter"s City) or, in the Communist period, Leningrad. Lenin"s tomb, is in Moscow. St. Petersburg in Russia had its name changed to Petrograd in 1914 because it sounded too German and Russia was at war with Germany in World War 1. After Vladimir Lenin died, Petrograd was renamed Leningrad in 1924. It was changed back to St. Petersburg after the fall of the Soviet Union.
