The war is generally considered to have begun on 1 September 1939, with the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany and subsequent declarations of war on Germany by France and most of the countries of the British Empire and Commonwealth. Many countries were already at war by this date, such as Ethiopia and Italy in the Second Italo-Abyssinian War and China and Japan in the Second Sino-Japanese War.[3] Many that were not initially involved joined the war later in response to events such as the German invasion of the Soviet Union and the Japanese attacks on the U.S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor and on British overseas colonies, which triggered declarations of war on Japan by the United States, the British Commonwealth,[4] and the Netherlands.

World War 2 started of because of the harshness that the allies had inflicted upon Germany forcing them into a recession. at this point Adolf Hitler took his opportunity to use Propaganda to influence the German people into believing it was the Jewish religious followers fault for they're loss of WWI and as soon as he came to power he started to bring about lots of work in factories and the military ending in the invasion of Poland, Denmark, France, Belgium, Holland and allot of the European nations for Britain it was 1 all about survival and 2 freeing all occupied countries.

At this time Russia wasn't involved but after the victory in France Hitler took one of the worse decisions of the war and marched on Russia this ultimately lead to his defeat. soon after this the Japanese brought the Americans into the war by bombing pearl harbour this also lead to Hitlers defeat.

Hitler started World War II to gain "living space" for the German people. His ultimate goal was to conquer all of Eastern Europe (i.e. Poland, the Soviet Union, the Baltics, the Balkans) in order to provide this. He planned first to kill most of the Slavs (Slavic people-Russians, Ukrainians, Poles, Belorussians, Serbs, Czechs, Slovaks, and many more) and enslave the rest, and eventually to annihilate all Slavs. Rather than be wiped off the face of the Earth, which is likely what would have happened if they had lost, the Soviet Union decided to fight back.

Mainly the attack on Pearl Harbor. Also, the military provided many jobs for the unemployed Americans who lost their jobs during the Great Depression. However, the US never wanted to get involved, but Germany declared war after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
