William "The Conqueror" led an invasion of England by the Normans, the Saxon tribes that were settled in Normandy, in what is nowadays France. Normandy was part of the Saxon realm of England at that time. The invasion was against King Harold 1 and was successful. It was the last time England was successfully invaded and occupied. The reason given by William in invading his fellow Saxons was the previous king, Canute 1, had bequeathed the throne to him, but this was ignored by Harold.

It was just a coincidence. The reason why France attacked Libya is because they are part of the UN and the UN declared war on Libya for ignoring the cease fire commands from the UN and massacering/ mutilating innocent civilians. My thought was that perhaps because France was not onboard with the U.S. invasion of Iraq, that France was sending a message to the U.S. and Britain that "when the cause is just, you can count on France to be the first to cross the proverbial line drawn in the sand (Lt.
