∙ 6y agoThe Japanese somewhat unexpectedly and effectively launched a surprise air attack against the US naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941. The attack was considered treacherous by the US because the Japanese were still engaged in US diplomatic discussions at the time of the attack.
In any event, the US declaration of war on Japan affected Nazi Germany most severely, as they declared war on the US under their Axis treaties with Japan. This hastened the Allied reconquest of occupied Europe.
