This all Depends on the meaning of the word 'Civilized' which is a very charged term.

What Europe referred to as 'civilized' was quite different than what Africa called civilized at the time.

For Example, Most people in Africa wore traditional tribal garments which to a European might seem 'underdressed' and 'unmodern'. But the clothing style, materials and colors are adapted and perfected to the climate and conditions of the areas they inhabit. In addition, the traditions and religions of the tribes dictated the different styles of clothing as well.

I'm sure, to a tribesman, a collared shirt, black waistcoat, and shiny shoes must have looked odd, and definitely didn't do a good job of camaflouging a person from a hungry lion.

yes they were civilised the myth that all Africans were uncivilised was created by the European enslavers! the people that came from Africa as slaves they were well educated and had a strong belief in their religion they also had a high morals and standards they were scholars,artisans,bulders,doctors ,farmers,laborers,and solders. the Africans even spoke several languages . However they did not learn or speak English until the European slavers arrived to Africa. some languages that was spoken were Arabic ,Egyptian,Spanish, French ,Dutch in addition to their own language. this was largely due to the demands for slaves from different parts of the world.

No, the Africans were not civilized at the time of slave trade. They were usually brought from Africa from their villages, but in fact, they had a more civilized way of life back in Africa. They were captured by slave traders and brought to either the US, or countries like Guyana or Cuba.

NO! Africa was not civilized even before the coming of the Europeans. This topic has raised many debate by scholars.Now, lets look at the meaning of "civilization". It mean educated, civil, intellect, and culturised. This was not evident in the so-called civilized Africa.

Their culture was barbaric, rituals and so on. If they were civilized, why was it that, they allowed the whites to exploit them.

They walk around, naked, they were also 'cannibals.

it was somewhat peaceful in that region because the European people messed with the culture and they no longer had peaceful bonds between the themselves.
