There was the Works Progress Administration (1935) which created construction jobs for unskilled men, sewing projects for women, and arts projects for unemployed artists. There was also the Public Works Administration (1933) that created a lot of public works projects to help with unemployment. In addition, there was the Civilian Conservation Corps (1933-1942) which sought to employ young men.
During the Great Depression in the US in the 1930's, US President Franklin Roosevelt set into motion many beneficial programs. One was the Social Security act that gave retirees income when they retired. He also created the FDIC to insure the peoples savings accounts in banks. Another program was the so-called CC camps that provided jobs for the unemployed.
