Why did the Chicago race riot start?

Actually, it was not (l968 Riot here) racially motivated. it concerned a group of Hippies and Yippies (led?) by Abbie Hoffmann and others and turned out aimed against the political climate of the day- the Democratic National Convention was in session in the city. The riot is an ugly picture. There was some grim humor as some Yippies ( Youth International Party- also called Yipsters)- (Liberated) a live hog from the slaughter yards- and nominated him ( Pigasus) as a political candidate to run- on what else- a platform of garbage! things got a lot sicker. The riot was politically and not racially motivated, if you mean the l968 Chicago uprisings- this led to the trials of the Chicago 8- later 7, as one suspect was acquitted or let go for lack of evidence.
