We can reconstruct many aspects of their lives from surviving tools, weapons, campsites and other items discovered in archaeological investigations.

By comparison with similar people in other parts of the world we can build up a fairly accurate picture of how they lived, what they ate and what their surroundings and available resources were like.

Many things still remain unknown, such as their languages, details of their ceremonies and religion, their oral traditions and beliefs and exactly how their societies were organised.

We know the lifestyles of the ancients by studying history and Archaeology with its many branches. We can pinpoint the causes of death of many unearthed skeletons by medical technology and the analyzing of teeth enamel and bones. Bones tell us a lot about their diets, their ages and even give us a good idea of the type of work that they did.

The Palaeo-Indian or Clovis culture dates to between 8,000 and 40,000 years ago, although the exact dates are a matter of scientific debate and new discoveries are being made all the time.

Everything we know about those earliest peoples in the Americas comes from archaeological remains - solid and long-lasting items like stone and bone tools, shells, human skeletons, animal remains, remains of hearths and post holes from shelters and so on. Soil samples can produce seeds and pollen that tell us about the climate at that time.

Nothing remains that gives a clue about personal names, tribal names, languages, religion or traditions.
