The Boer War, for some historians, referred to as the Second Boer War (1899-1902); was fought primarily as a result of Great Britain's "Imperialistic" Government. Seeking territories from the Dutch (Afrikanders), which were rich in gold and diamonds, and other minerals needed by the British Empire. The war was a costly one for England, the second highest casualties since the American Revolution of 1776 (in dead). Concentration Camps (officially refugee camps) were termed thus, for the first time, consisting mainly of displaced Boer families. The war evolved from a maneuver campaign into a guerrilla phase towards the end. Ultimately, the guerrilla's ran "out of supplies." The Boers surrendered, ending the war in 1902.

The Vietnam War was a "hot" battle of the cold war, and not fought for imperialistic gains (meaning riches for the Empire). Civilians were displaced into South Viet Gov't housing areas, which allowed US/Allied forces to "free fire zone" those vacated terrritories, thus making it easier for US/Allied forces to identify & destroy enemy targets. The enemy in South Vietnam NEVER ran out of supplies (the Ho Chi Minh Trail primarily), and because of this, would never surrender. There would be no end to this war; so the US ended it; by departing.
