The Protestant Reformation was a split in the Christian Church (then simply the Catholic Church) between the established Catholic Church and those who protested against the sanctitiy of the Church (namely John Calvin, Martin Luther, and other such early Church leaders). Each country in Europe held it's own views and many wars would break out between countries and territorial states ending in the 30 Year War which ended in Germany in 1648 and the Peace of Westphalia which empowered each political state to declare it's own religious affiliation and granted the right to the individual to worship his/her own chosen Christianity in appointed dates and times.
