For the most part untouchables are located in India where Hinduism is the primary religion. Untouchables are Hindus, but they are in the lowest rank of Hinduism. That being said, many untouchables do not have the education to perform other work besides hand labor and other jobs that higher level Hindus will not take.

Untouchables, also known as Dalits, traditionally had low-status occupations such as manual scavenging, cleaning latrines, and handling dead animals. They were excluded and marginalized from mainstream society due to the deeply entrenched Caste System in the Indian Subcontinent. However, in modern times, efforts have been made to uplift the status of Dalits and provide them with equal opportunities in various fields of work.
