Mainly two things:

  1. The Confederacy would have been a source of cheap cotton for French textile factories. France did not really have its own source of cheap cotton, unlike Britain, which controlled Egypt and India.
  2. France invaded and conquered Mexico in the 1860s, and set up a second Mexican Empire which was under French control. Lincoln and the Union were vehemently opposed to this, but the Civil War prevented Lincoln from doing anything about it. The Confederacy on the other hand, did not strongly oppose it. Had France helped the Confederacy win the Civil War and independence, it is likely that the Confederacy would've returned the favor by helping the Mexican Empire (at the very least by not opposing it).

No advantage that I can see. France didn't have a dog in this fight and the rest of Europe stayed out of it as well. This was a US internal problem.
