"The Gearbox" is not in ANYWAY hooked the the Oil Cooler that is for the engine oil only. If you are speaking of "The Gearbox" as in the Transmission then after having it checked and serviced.
Consider [http://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/atf.aspx?zo=1163284 Synthetic Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)]. But if you are speaking about the Transfer Case then your "Gear lube" may be low.
If it is not low then the Gear Lube itself may not be up to the job of providing the protection needed.
I would consider getting one that is up to the Job. Good Luck and Remember.

No... not unless it was installed aftermarket. It goes from the reservoir to the pump, then from the pump to the gearbox.
Usual cause is a bad radiator, the coolant and trans fluid mixes in a failed cooler.
Check the transmission cooler and cooling lines for a blockage. It is quite possible the cooler is plugged.
It has a cooler causing it to never overheat as many have said.
If your Oil Cooler lines are leaking then you run out of oil and your engine will overheat & "Seize".
It is built into the radiator.
plugged up tranny cooler ford gives you a small cooler it does not do its job replace with bigger tranny pan hughes and bigger cooler(converter could be going out)
Please you check cooler system, fan, whewn idle overheat.
Is it low on tranny oil, or you might have a bad oil cooler, or is your engine running very hot.
The heated transmission oil flows through the cooler, and that heat is exchanged to the ambient air which flows through the fins of the cooler. The rapidly cooled fluid returns to the transmission.
Yes, pressure and return cooler lines.
No, if anything it would get cooler from having too much. -You have a different problem, possibly a coolant leak.
