The first two things to check would be the Transmission Fluid level, and have it checked for codes. A lot of transmission problems will set trouble codes.
Nope, it doesn't have one. It's considered to be a "sealed" transmission, and you shouldn't need to check the dipstick. However... you SHOULD have the transmission serviced according to the maintenance schedule in the owners manual. When the transmission is serviced, the fluid is drained, the filter is replaced and the transmission is filled UP TO an overflow hole on the side of the transmission. But there is no transmission dipstick.
have you had it serviced recently? your computer may be re-learning its idle pattern if any engine management sensors or devices have been replaced recently.
No, check the fluid level and have the transmission serviced. (filter and fluid replaced)
You add fluid at the same place you check it. If there is no place the check the fluid level it is a sealed transmission. It can be checked but I hesitate to post the procedure here. Do it incorrectly and you can damage the transmission. Unless you see an obvious leak, then just have it serviced as outlined in your owner's manual.
One of the reasons a Honda Accord with an automatic transmission may not shift out of first is there is not enough transmission fluid. The more likely reason is that the transmission has something broken in it and needs to be serviced or replaced.
It 12 years old you should have it serviced perhaps the seals need replaced, an are sure it's the Trans leaking and not the engine.
There might be a hole in the oil pan. One or more oil seals may have dried out and cracked. If recently serviced the sump plug might not have been replaced correctly. If not serviced regularly the bolts holding the oil pan in place may have become loose.
A professional licensed Mechanic is trained to look for signs of problems or damage, when working on a transmission. The mechanic usually will drive the vehical after its been serviced to see if problem has been fixed.
easy if you add fluid get transmission serviced filter and fluids changed and bands checked
INSP mean "Inspection" or in other words "The car needs a service." IF it has been serviced recently take it back where it was serviced, and ask them to finish the job by reseting the service light. If it has not been serviced, get it serviced.
BMW does not recommend a millage when the transmission should be serviced on the 1997 540-I. To ensure a long life from your transmission, mechanics recommended changing the transmission fluid every 75,000 miles.
The filter is inside the transmission and is not to be serviced. Just drain fluid and replace.
