Run a diagnostic code. You probably won't be able to get to any of the transmission codes, but there may be a problem with the VSS or some internal transmission electronic controls.

What does check for overdrive mean on a semi truck?

It means that the truck in question has an overdrive transmission, as opposed to a direct drive transmission. All other things being equal, a truck with a direct drive and 2.64 rear ends is pretty much equivalent to running a .74 OD transmission and 3.58 rear ends.

Why does overdrive light blink on my Ford Probe SE automatic after running out of gas if the overdrive works fine.?

The OD light flashing is an indicator of an electrical failure in the transmission. Get it fixed now or replace the tranny later.

What is od on a Mercury villager 1998?

Overdrive ( basically the 4th gear in your 4 speed automatic transmission ) It allows you to drive on the highway / freeway with the engine running at lower RPM's . The engine is quieter and will get better gas mileage The O/D OFF light will come on in your dash if the switch on the end of your gear selector lever is pushed . Pushing the switch again will allow the overdrive to be used , as will shutting off the vehicle and the next time it is started the overdrive is allowed which is the normal position

What is the best gear ratio for your 10 speed on your semi?

Are you running 22.5s, 255s, 24.5s...? What's the final drive ratio of your transmission? Are you running direct drive (1:1), .87 overdrive, .74 overdrive...? What's your engine and displacement? You probably don't want to run the same gear ratios with a 12.8 Mercedes-Benz MBE as you would with a C15 Cat, you know? What kind of terrain are you running in? Are you doing east coast regional, 48 states, sitework...? Seriously, you're an owner/op or going to be one, and... this? 3.55s to 3.58s tends to be a bit of a 'default'. With a .74 overdrive transmission and 22.5s, you'd be running between 68 and 70 at 1500 RPMs. If you're running a direct drive with a 1:1 ratio and 22.5s, you'd be running 2.79s or 2.64s. Direct drive is disadvantaged in that you end up with lower starting torque, but also has an advantage in hills in that running a 1:1 transmission ratio doesn't create a parasitic drain on the engine (whereas running in overdrive does).

What would cause your 1995 transport not to shift into overdrive Van drive fine in overdrive positionbut will not shift into overdrive The RPM is between 2k an 2.5k?

If your transmission is picking up a fault it will go into protection mode, No OverDrive, This may just be a solonoid or perhaps something more serios like a pressure problem. Long term running in this condition will most likely cause damage, A transmission service is a small price to pay when compared with a recon or new trans.

What happens if the OD button in the 95 ford probe is disabled?

if OD button is disabled, the transmission will not shift into overdrive. your car will be running with one less gear, and using more fuel

20 min of driving stalls and refires but cannot stay running in gear till it cools down?

It is possibly the overdrive solenoid located within the transmission. It prevents the transmission from downshifting and causes stalling at low speeds. It's a cheap part but a real hassle to change.

Car running good until holding the speed between 35-40mph then the car stumbles and hesitates If i speed through those speeds it fine What is it TPS?

I doubt it is the tps. Could it be the transmission shifting in and out of overdrive?

What causes the Overdrive light to flash on 1999 Mercury Sable?

I have a 1996 Mercury Sable and it did the same thing. The fix was a new transmission. My mechanic noticed that the car was running higher RPMs than it should have after replacing an engine that blew a rod through the engine because of the bad transmission.

What is the ECT Button for on a 1999 Hyundai Elantra?

It should indeed stand for Electronic Controlled Transmission. It will basically make the transmission delay shifting until the engine revs higher, giving you a bit more power. There should also be a button on the gear selector itself that probably turns on and off the overdrive, as described below. Of course the problem with running your car in ECT mode, means you will be using more gas. This is either the Overdrive button or the Traction Control button. On this car, I think this stands for Electronic Controlled Transmission, which means it turns the overdrive on an off. While traveling at 50 mph push the button. If you hear and see the engine rpms go up on the tach, this is the overdrive button.

My 700r4 shifts 1st and 2nd perfectly but then slips in 3rd and overdrive?

Chances are you need to add transmission fluid. This needs to be checked with the engine running and at normal operating temperature. Checking the transmission level dipstick on a cold engine always gives a false reading of having enough or too much fluid in that unit.
