Do not run the engine with windshield washer fluid in the cooling system. Most washer fluids contain methane alcohol and is not the same kind of chemical found in coolant. I strongly recommend thoroughly flushing the system and using new coolant. It may be wise to exchange the thermostat. The problem with a foreign chemical circulating the system is manifold and head gaskets could be damaged and if you are unable to replace these seals it can cost thousands of dollars.

What will happen if you accidentally pour brake fluid into coolant reservoir?

Brake fluid can corrode your water pump. If you didn't start the engine after installing the brake fluid, then pump the reservoir empty, flush it with water and refill it with proper coolant. If you DID start it, you need to flush the whole cooling system.

What would happen if you poured windshield washer in the coolant overflow?

I don't know the reaction it would have on the coolant but I would advise you to flush out your system immediately and put in fresh coolant.

Accidentally poured windshield wiper fluid in radiator?

This happened to me.. so I have some suggestions. First.. don't panic!! LOL.. its going to be ok :) Worst case senario: drain the fluid out of the vehicle and replace it. I wouldn't do that just yet though. Read on and learn a bit. There is some good news: Windshield wiper fluid is mostly water. Honestly, Im not sure what the 5% of other stuff in the windshield wiper fluid will do. Im thinking that there is a seal in the water pump, so it might damage that. You could leave it in and not do a thing and hope nothing bad will happen. Since I have a new vehicle chose to NOT go with this plan. A question for you: Did you put it directly in the radiator or in the coolant reservoir? I put mine in the reservoir. This is what I did to fix my problem. This is what I did. I opened my radiator cap, not all vehicles allow you to do this. I used a turkey baster to check the fluid in the radiator. Mine was all coolant. That was good news. Now take a look at the reservoir, you MIGHT notice a difference in the color of the fluid. Coolant is usually red, green, or yellow. Windshield wiper fluid is generally blue. So lets hope you can see the difference. Lets hope that the fluids have not mixed. Mine didnt. In mine the windshield wiper fluid stayed on top. In my vehicle the reservoir is used when the vehicle gets hot. The fluid is then stored in the reservoir. Also, if, for whatever reason, the vehicle loses some fluid, it uses the extra fluid in the reservoir to replace the fluid that is missing. So good news for me, the windshield wiper fluid was trapped in the reservoir and only there. Lets hope that yours is as well :) So I took a look at the reservoir and tried to figure out how to get the fluid out. It looked much to difficult to remove the reservoir... but what else could I do. So, as a man usually does, I looked at it for a while and prayed. Then it came to me: Suck the windshield wiper fluid out of the reservoir. BINGO! I grabbed my wet-vac and cut myself 2 feet of old garden hose. I slide the garden hose into the vacuums hose and used some duct tape to seal it. I slide the garden hose down into the reservoir and turned the vacuum on. I sucked out the windshield wiper fluid and whatever coolant that was in the reservoir. Viola! I replaced the coolant with some new fluid and that was that!!

When you put water in the radiator and you leave the cap off while the car is running and the water comes back out while the car is running why does that happen?

Simply stated: The coolant system of your car is a pressurized system. When your engine is running it is generating heat causing the coolant to expand. Your radiator cap helps maintain the pressure in your coolant system, without it there the water as it heats will push it's way back out of the system. Even when you have the cap on the pressure will push coolant into the reservoir that is attached to the tube you can find coming out past the cap. When your engine cools the extra coolant is pulled back out of the reservoir into the cooling system. NOTE: You should always use the recommended coolant specified by your car manufacturer, using only water can possibly damage your engine.

How do you get the air out of the engine after changing the thermostat on a Saturn sl2?

Don't worry about it. If the engine has not been damaged, all you need to do is keep the coolant reservoir full, and run the engine enough to get it hot at which point it will push out a lot of the air. After it cools again, it will pull in the coolant. Keep the coolant level up by checking it every time you get ready to go somewhere. You'll notice when the coolant level no longer drops. Note that if the engine has overheated, it could have been damaged. If that happened, there could be a failed head gasket or cracked head. When either of those happen, combustion gas is forced into the coolant space, forcing coolant out of the engine and causing the engine to overheat rapidly. Unfortunately, if that has happened, the only option is to replace the faulty parts and re-surface the head.

Car is leaking coolant and overheating what is wrong with car?

one reason this may happen is as simple as the cap on your cars coolant reservoir is stripped or improperly screwed on. when this happens it doesn't allow pressure to build or hold.

How does blown head gasket happen?

The most common cause of a blown head gasket is an over heating engine. Low coolant or coolant not circulating through the engine causes the engine to heat up and the gasket to fail.

What would happen if windshield washer fluid was put in brake fluid reservoir?

You need to have the brake fluid changed immediately. Washer fluid will damage all of the seals in the brake system

How do you flush the coolant?

Take it to dealer and hope they do it correctly, There is a plug on bottom of radiator loosen and it drains coolant out of radiator, but not out of engine, There are plugs on the side of the engine block that have to be removed to drain coolant out of block. Probably impossible to get to and accidents happen, sorry I hope this helps some.

What about a 91 Mazda RX 7 non turbo that does not have smoke coming out of the engine but the coolant continues to leak from the over flow reservoir has a new thermostat Could it be the water pump no?

Yes it could be the water pump. It could also be a clogged radiator, or air in the system that needs to be bled. out, There is a bleed screw on the thermostat housing. With the engine running unscrew the valve till coolant flows steady with no air pockets for at least 5 seconds. Now there is no air in your system. Don't let your coolant get too low or this is what will happen.

What will happen if you drive your 1999 dodge ram 1500 with a leak in the radiator?

It will run out of water/coolant and you will blow your engine.

Water Leak under firewall 1992 Cadillac Brougham?

There are three basic types of fluid leaks in this area. in order of frequency; 1) A/C Condensate (water) these happen only after the A/C has been running and is the result of a clogged drain. 2) Heater core leaks (engine Coolant, feels oily and has a sweet odor and taste). this will happen any time the engine reaches full operating temperature. Windshield leaks (water) this will happen after a rain or car wash.
