This can get a little tricky! If you are referring to the first generation small block Chevy that is. Here's a GENERAL guideline for stock oil pans with dipsticks that enter the block, and not the pan:
67-79 Drivers side
80-81 Driver or Passenger side
82-96 Passenger side
As this was a corporate engine, variances can be attributed to clearance differences in the various body styles (pickup trucks, Corvettes, etc.) and the dipstick provision on the engine blocks oil pan rail. Some blocks have a "relieved" pan rail area to provide for locating the dipstick on either side. Others are driver or passenger side specific. There is also the issue with thick or thin front seal to deal with, as well as 1 or 2 piece rear main seal - but don't sweat this as any decent parts counterman should be able to tell you which combination of parts will work for you. Even if he or she has to reference your block casting number and verify your oil pan style. Hope this helps & good luck!
You didn't state what year..........but if you have a v8 in your car, the dipstick is normally on the passenger side comign up the side of the engine in a tube with a handle on the stick. The tube runs down into the crankcase.
It depends on the year it was manufactured. Some of them are on the driver's side of the block, some on the passenger's side.
From 55 until 86, the dipstick was on the driver's side, using a hole in the block casting between #'s 5 & 7From 86 to the end of the first gen run, the dipstick was on the passenger side, going directly into a hole in the oil pan. These engines also had raised-rail heads with center bolt hold downs, and one-piece rear main seals.
Under the hood, each truck year is different but it is in a black box, must of the time it is on the passangers side. and it will be maked on top fuel relay.
We need to know what year your S10 is.
you apparently have a manual transmission or you would have found the dipstick/filler tube commonly yellow in this year range as is our 95 corsica! manual trannies don't usually require fluid until full servicing. but in the case you do need it, should be steel plug about 1/2 way up the side of tranny usually passenger side.
the 1970's
Need to know what year.
Depends on what year, look on the dipstick. And if it doesn't have a dipstick, it uses WS fluid.
Depending on the year 87 and up is in the tank Depending on the year 87 and up is in the tank
You will need to provide the suffix code from front on the passenger side head of the engine.
The shortblocks are pretty much the same, other than switching the dipstick over to the opposite side, around 87. The same year, they redesigned the cylinder heads. Changed their angle, and configuration. That was the first generation vortec. A different intake manifold is required, along with self aligning rocker arms.
