I don't know what year, But I can give this info.:
'H' is A 1500 motor single reliefe.
It can be made into any size motor from 1300 to the 1600 even with big bore kits like 1770.
The oil reliefe is single as opposed to dual on later models. That's fine for normal or even A little hot rodding, But not too much,
It is A good basic VW engine if you are wanting A good dependable daily driver or A off road ride that will be used with care and not trying to see how much abuse it will handle.
The numbers vary from one engine to the next. Varies with model year and displacement and European or US.
What numbers are you talking about? It will tell you the displacement and a engine code. The engine code is used at dealers and garages.
That arrangement of numbers is the typical format for a VW part number. IIRC, that particular part number is for the engine block.
That will be a 1974 model year 1600 cc engine.
whats the letter before the numbers? there is no letter before the numbers, the engine is salvaged but the model of the car is a '70 bug. the other numbers i found off the engine by the VW symbol reads "H3 101 101 B (or 8) 17" Answer: Reading the number off the generator/alternator stand is the engine code. There will be a little VW symbol and then the letters/ numbers either H0 or H5, I don't have a listing for a H3. An H0 will be a late 1966 to early 1967, H5 will be late 1967 to early 1969. Of course these are the numbers for the case, if it's been rebuilt there may be a number of different year features to the engine. The stock displacement for the engine codes above is 1500 cc, these were easily and usually modified when rebuilt to be 1600 cc.
2007 gti
Need to know what type engine are you asking about, a newer VW? You can call a VW dealership and get an answer.
That would be a model year 1967 1500 cc engine.
This would be a 1600 cc engine from model year 1974 to early 1975.
This is the Type 1 model year 1966 1300 cc engine.
There will be a two letter designation in front of those numbers that will pinpoint the engine.
This was the late 1970 to 1972 1600 cc engine.
