The Treaty of Tordesillas (7 June, 1494) was concluded by Spain and Portugal with the approval of Pope Alexander VI. The two countries modified the previously set demarcation line regarding the territories that were discovered by Columbus and others. According to this treaty the papal line was moved 1850 km west of Cape Verde, which was beneficial to the Portuguese.
The location of a peace treaty can vary depending on the parties involved. Peace treaties may be signed in a neutral location, a country involved in the conflict, or an international organization headquarters.
