Whats wrong with a 98 dodge neon 100900 miles engine when you start it in the morning it will tick or knock loud for about 5 to 10 secs and then goes away but can hear it very little when it idles?

check the oil. if its leaking your head gasket may be bad. if theres oil on the engine around the head gaskets you know its leaking. ADD OIL

For SOHC engines, if your not sure whether your head gasket has been changed the updated head gaskets have a square tab with a hole in the center that extends between the #1 and #2 cylinders. So you shoud see the tab as your facing the engine from the front of the car looking down into the engine bay. #1 cylinder is on your left you should see the tab between the 1 and 2 cylinders.
