Likewise, Theodore Roosevelt, Calvin Coolidge, Harry Truman and Lyndon Johnson did not have Vice Presidents for the remainder of the terms they assumed upon the death of the President (it was only after being reelected that their running mates became Vice President). It was not until the 1967 ratification of the 25th Amendment that the U.S. Constitution provided for the mid-term filling of vacancies in the vice presidency, which happened in 1973 and 1974.
