It's a ground fault in one or both of the brake lights. Instead of brake light voltage going across the bulb and to vehicle ground, it's going across the brake light then back across the tail-light and into the tail light/dash light circuit. Check the brake light sockets first. Saturn had some problems with some of their tail light assemblies corroding from too much heat when lights were on for an extended period of time. You might be able to just clean up the connections in the tail light assembly then put it all back together with a little of the special grease that they use for light sockets. If that's not it, check the ground wire and make sure it's getting a good connection.
Remove the dash and remove the instrument cluster, the lights are in the back of the cluster.
well i bought new lights for my instrument cluster thinking it would fix the problem but there still dim
You Will Have To Take To A Dealer. Best Of Luck
Inside the instrument cluster. To replace them remove the cluster and take it apart.
Dashboard area where guages, speedometer, & lights are located
I'm not sure if the following fuses are for the dash lights - the owner's manual lists them for " instrument cluster " location # 11 - 7.5 amp fuse for instrument cluster location # 15 - 7.5 amp fuse for instrument cluster location # 33 - 15 amp fuse instrument cluster/headlamps/DRL module
Behind the instrument Cluster. Or remove it and replace the Cluster.
In the dash in front of the driver The instrument cluster has your speedometer , engine coolant temperature gauge , your fuel gauge , your warning lights , etcetera
Cluster means all the gauges and warning lights on a vehicle i.e. fuel gauge, temp gauge speedometer, odometer, oil pressure warning lights etc.
There are at least 7 or 8 lamps in the instrument cluster which provide lighting to the gauges, speedometer and "idiot lights". It's a fair bet that several of them have burned out in a vehicle of that age. You'll probably have to pull the cluster in order to reach them. Some LED versions are available that are both brighter than the original lamps, and will NEVER have to be replaced again for the life of the car. You can also get them in cool colors :)
The instrument cluster needs to be removed to get at the bulbs.
