He didn't call Europe an Iron Curtain. In a speech in 1946 to an audience in Fulton Missouri, he said "from Stettin in the north to Trieste in the south, an Iron Curtain has descended over Europe". He was referring to the Soviet Union having so much power and control in Eastern Europe.
