Depends on the model and year of the car. Generally 60,000 to 80,000 miles are the intervals for more recent models. If the car has an actual chain as its timing piece, the intervals are longer. My car (Toyota) calls for 60K intervals, but I have 120K on it. Also, the type of engine the car has is important. On some engines, like Honda, they are called interference engines. If the timing belt breaks, the valves fall down into the combustion chamber and are stuck by the pistons, causing severe engine damage. You do not want to delay the change of the timing belt on these model cars, as the potential for expensive engine damge exists. Check the manufacturer for their recommendations.
