When do you usually have to change the timing belt on a 1995 Cadillac ElDorado?
The 1995 Cadillac Eldorado does not use a timing belt. The cams a driven with a metal chain and all other timing aspects are handled either mechanically or electronically. You just saved yourself many dollars at the dealership.
Where can you find instructions for a simplified procedure to replace the timing belt on a 1997 Cadillac Catera?
I have an '84 Eldorado, with the same engine. The timing is set after the engine is warmed up, running at 800 RPM or less. You must first disconnect the green connecter behind the distributor near the firewall. The setting is 10 degrees before top dead center (10 DEG BTDC). Although on an older car like this you'll find you get better performance by advancing it a little more. I set mine about 12-13 deg…

Once the timing belt skips the engine generally doesn't run. While it is possible that a collision can cause such a problem, if the engine has not been damaged so that you can see a problem on the outside, nothing bad has usually happened. Are you sure a Cadillac has a timing belt? I thought they were gear driven.
Look up a Cadillac maintenance book. Check location of ALDL terminal socket, make a jumper wire, jumper the listed terminals. Attach your timing light, and start your engine. You will be able to see, the markings on the crank shaft pulley, against the marks on the engine. Check your timing that is listed under the hood. You can adjust the timing by loosening the lock nut under the distributor special wrench needed. ALDL assembly line…
How do you change the timing belt on a 1998 VW Beetle or is this something the dealership should do?
Does 1996 Nissan Sentra GXE use a timing belt or a timing chain How long can it normally last in miles?
Your question is too vague usually when someone says that their engine has jumped time that means that the timing chain has jumped on the timing sprockets. If that is the case you would need to change them. If the distributor is out of time to do it right you would need to have a timing light. You would need a repair manual for the specifications to fix both of them.
