A woman does not receive a dowry. The groom to be is given a dowry by the parents of the bride. The dowry may be money, two goats or a liver spotted cow. It depends on how much the parents want to entice you to marry their daughter. It also may depend on what country you live in. In America the bride has a hope Chess that contains everything she may need when she marries like pots and pans, blankets, sheets, dishes, and hopefully Birth Control. Don't expect a dowry if you are living in the USA.

Was there divorce among the Kikuyu in the old days?

The Kikuyu are a group of Bantu people who live in East Africa. Yes, there was divorce in Kikuyu custom. The process of paying dowry for a wife was a long one. It took an average of twelve years to pay off the dowry requested in the first true negotiation. The Kikuyus accommodated a man by allowing him to make a part payment fo his dowry. However, he was to complete his debt by the time his first daughter was ready for marriage to ensure that he did not receive a daughter's dowry before he himself had completed his part. During these years, he was allowed to divorce because all it took would be for his wife's family to return the dowry paid in animals, crops and honey. First, old, respectable men would take his wife from his homestead to her father's homestead. This was to ensure that she arrived at her father's home because she had been previously under the care of her husband. Secondly, the woman's family would be indebted to return all the dowry paid. If She happened to get a suiter, two options were possible. Either, her family would refund all dowry paid to them in order to receive the new dowry or the suiter would pay her former husband's family directly to pay of her dowery family's debt. The situation became complicated if the husband had completed paying his whole dowry debt. This was what was called "gwatura kiande". At this stage, a wife belonged to a man completely and a man could not divorce her. She belonged to him "matu na hia". In such a case, he could only marry a second or other wife and simply ignore the wife he was not interested in because her family could not take her back at all.

Is dowry given in christianity faith?

I think that would depend on what culture you are a part of. There is nothing in the New Testament that says anyone must pay a dowry or have a dowry to get married. The only thing is that you should try to marry a believer, and that you should go into it knowing that this is for life - you cannot marry anyone else (unless your partner has died). It also doesn't say you should not give or receive a dowry, so if the families want to do that they can. But I think a Christian should not ask for a dowry, for example saying "I will not marry this girl unless she has a dowry." If you want to marry her, that should not have any conditions attached! Interestingly, the relationship between Jesus Christ and His followers (the church) is compared to a bridegroom and his bride. Jesus accepted His bride (people) just as she is - we do not have to offer Him anything in order to be worthy of His love. In fact there is nothing we can offer or do which will make Jesus love us more! He already loves us as much as it is possible.

The branching fiber that is the first part of the neuron to receive a nervous system impulse is called a dendrite.
