They say that the women stabbed him because she said that king was boycotting and torturing her. That if it wasn't him it would've been her that got stabbed. It was indicated that she was a crazy.

He survived and made a full recovery. On September 30, 1958 while still in hospital he made a press release forgiving her and calling for non-violence in the Civil Rights Movement. Curry was found to be mentally incompetent to stand trial and was committed to a psychiatric institution.
