In the seventh century BC BCE, the so-called second colonization period began from Asia Minor and ancient Greece. Greeks from Asia Minor settled on the south coast of Thrace and founded several colonies. These included Abdera, Maroneis, Ainos, along with Dakaia, Stryme, Mesembria and Zone. They eventually became powerful city-states.
