check the solenoid, and the starter.
you can try to short the starter motor . take a screw driver and bridge ffrom battery cable on starter to ignition wire on starter. if starter is good, engine will crank. if starter is bad , solenoid will click if no clicking, solenoid is bad
IF YOUR MODEL HAS AN INLINE STARTER RELAY (BIG BLUE IDENTIFIED IN ENGINE ROOM) IT MAY HAVE FAILED. IF NOT THEN CHK FOR POWER AT STARTER, IF IT HAS POWER THEN STARTER IS BAD.
battery terminal wires not properly hooked up
usually you can tell when your car doesnt turn or or doesnt turn over its because of your starter sometimes its not the starter it could be a low battery or corroded wires leading to the starter check that first;
Most often it is the starter and not the ignition.
sounds like a flat battery
We just had the same problem on a 2005 caravan. Auto parts store tested it and siad the alternator was bad. Took it to main dealer and they said the battery was bad. They changed the battery and all is well. (Main dealer battery $160 so beware!!!!!) Try a new battery from somewhere cheaper. You can also remove the alternator and take it to an auto parts store where they can bench test it and tell you if it is bad. They can do the same with the battery.
Seized engine? Loose or cooroded battery terminal Bad starter solenoid? Bad neutral or clutch safety switch?
weak (bad or discharged) battery bad starter try using a booster pack or striking starter while turning key Likely suspect is the battery terminals have built up a film on the post and the connector, probably needs cleaning. Also could be starter solenoid gone bad.
You mean a ticking sound while TRYING to start a jeep? If the jeep doesnt start and is making this noise then either it doesnt have enough amps to start or the starter is bad. You can have the battery tested for free at autozone. It could also be that your alterntor isn't charging the battery also.
you will have to do a process of elimination. have the battery checked to see if you have a dead cell. just because you have power doesnt mean you have enough cranking amps to start the car. if that's not it, could be the solonoid or the starter. it sounds like it's the battery though.
only way to fix that problem, is to find out what is drawing the power.This can be caused by an accesory that doesnt not shut power off when ignition is shut off, or by a short in the wiring in the vehicle somewherehave the starter motor checked for a short as well, as some starters when worn will draw enuff power to drain battery, but not enuff to turn starter,when ignition is off.
