There is a small "pre-pump" inside the gas tank, and the high pressure pump is located under the car on the left side, just forward of the rear tire.

It is located with the fuel pump under the drivers side of the car. It rests on a plate that also has the fuel pump attached to it. Undo the bolts holding the plate to the bottom of the car and you will see that it is very easy to replace.
If it's missing get one.Sounds like a fuel pump relay is going $40 part.

There is a second, high pressure pump under the car next to the gasoline filter. To remove the tank pump, you remove the "bung" which also has the fuel sender connected to it.
