If you are referring to the 4 cyl engine, there are caps covering the spark plugs and you can remove the caps with a Philips head screwdriver. Gently pulling the plastic up will reveal the rubber hole cover and the spark plug hole.
That is the rubber boot that is on the end of the spark plug wire that goes onto the spark plug.
You have a serious internal engine failure.

Put automatic trans. fluid in the spark plug holes. Let it soak a few days. Then use a wrench to bar the engine over.
You will have to remove the cover that is on top the engine. You will find the plug wires there. You must remove the bolt that holds down the plug to the engine. The plugs are located deep down in the holes.
It is important to gap the spark plugs of an engine. The spark plug gap measurement for this engine is 0.044 inches.
the minimum gap is 0.039", I just changed the sparkplugs of my Tracker ___________________________________ On my 98 tracker the specs are on the inside of the hood, have you checked there?
Remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug. Use some heavy gloves or a set of insulated pliers to hold the spark plug wire about 1/4-inch from the engine block (ground) and crank the engine - you should see a spark jump from the wire to the engine ground. For a better check, use another spark plug and put it on the spark plug wire and use it as a "jumper" from the wire to the engine ground.
