Where can I get songs that aren't on iTunes legally?

You can't. Apple has their products and things so locked up that iTunes is the only way to sync songs on it, unless you find another program on the internet that allows you to do so. Try searching through Google for one. Hope it helped!

u can go on Frost-wire, its a music sharing down loadable document, u type the song u want, click download, but u need 2 get iTunes ready and open, when its done downloading, it should appear on iTunes, then click file, add folder 2 library, click the song, and click open, then u go 2 devices (if its not there, your computer dosent see ur iPod) and click Continue, then the song should be syncing into ur iPod, and then u should be done! Enjoy ur Music!

Most major music retailers provide music download services but often if a song is not on iTunes it is because the artist does not want it distributed by downloading at all so it will not be available to download anywhere and will need to be purchased on a CD.

You can import cd's to your itunes, another more popular way is to get songs off of YouTube. If you find the song on youtube go to video2mp3.net, you can put the link to the song in the website and it will turn the video into an mp3 that you can put into Itunes.

To the comment above, I think we need a detailed walkthrough with the video2mp3.net thing because somehow It isn't working for me.
