My gayrodge
I'm not a mechanic / technician but it sounds like a problem with the clockspring inside the steering wheel column cover if the horn and the cruise control does not work ( the clockspring allows you to turn the steering wheel without pulling the wiring connections to your horn and cruise control switches mounted in your steering wheel )
It doesn't control anything. It is the connection for the cruise switches, horn switch, radio controls(if equipped) and airbag that allow the steering wheel to turn and there to still be a connection.
I found this answer: http://www.justanswer.com/uploads/advautoca/2008-10-01_185451_multifunction_switch_replace_with_linked_documents.pdf
The clockspring is the electrical connection under the steering wheel. If it is broken the horn and cruise switches are no longer part of the circuit.
probably a broken wire, either at the switches, or in the steering column
The steering is what controls the gauge in cruise control. This is in any car or truck.
Multifunction switches are located in the steering column. It's the turn signal, cruise control, headlights, wiper, etc lever. In different vehicles they have different functions.
I do believe you have to change the body control module, that is one from a cruise control vehicle and the switches on the steering and the speed sensor on the transmission. I'm not sure whether the dash lights have to be put in or not but just guessing I would say yes. I am sitting in the same situation as you , my 05 Frontier is an SE model but without cruise so I questioned the dealerships and these are the answers I got from them.I have already replaced the switches on the steering, way cooler looking, and the harness is there to just plug them in,so too is the harness for the controls for the stereo. All I now need is the steering controlled stereo.
It is the item under the steering wheel that provides the electrical connection to the airbag, horn, and cruise switches while allowing everyhing to turn.It is the item under the steering wheel that provides the electrical connection to the airbag, horn, and cruise switches while allowing everyhing to turn.
on the steering wheel
The cruise and radio switches do not share a common fuse.
To the left of the steering wheel, below the dashboard is a button that says cruise control. Push that button in, the dash will illuminate the cruise control light. Then, as you reach the speed you want to cruise at, push the button on the steering wheel that says "set". When you want to turn cruise control off, simply tap the brake pedal and the cruise will go off.
