I've been dealing with this same problem for a while. Sadly, the United States is one of the few countries that does not have free international healthcare. You could move to, or visit a country that does, to get medical treatment. I myself plan on moving to either Canada or England because of their free healthcare. I'd hate to lose a job and no longer have health insurance in the States, but the countries that have free healthcare treat everyone the same. They'll treat anyone for anything for free, reguardless of what's going on in your life, and that's the way it should be here.

ANOTHER, MORE THOUGHTFUL AND REALISTIC, VIEW

It is by no means "sad" that the United States does not have "free" healthcare. Indeed, there is no such thing as "free", unless of course, you believe that one has a claim to the money, property, and labor of others so as to force them to provide the healthcare to those who claim a "right" to it. That used to be called slavery. Now it seems to just be part of the penumbra of rights claimed by those in the entitlement class.

What is apparently not recognized is the fact that other than the rights enumerated in the Constitution, which derive from Natural Law, those things that are referred to as "rights" (such as healthcare), necessarily place upon another group or individual the responsibility to provide them. That is the essence of slavery and is the antithesis of freedom.

Perhaps it is easier for the European countries (and I am including Canada in that group, not because of geography, but because of mindset) to which the first answerer referred, to travel down that road to serfdom because they did not have a tradition of liberty. They are not "more enlightened"; indeed, they are less free, more burdened, and have swallowed the poison of collectivism.

Sadly, they also have healthcare systems and healthcare genius that fall far below the standards set by America. One can only attribute their quagmires to the disincentives to greatness and to discovery that undue government involvement necessarily creates. I daresay that far more of them come to America for treatment than we to them. Is it any wonder?

And oh, by the way, can you honestly say that you know of any situation in America where an individual who needed medical attention and sought it, was turned away for lack of funds? Please provide specifics.
