Rabies has been known since the ancient days of 2300 B.C. This lethal virus still exists in almost all parts of the world.

According to the Western Journal of Medicine article below, Rabies was considered an "Old World Disease", i.e. from Europe/Asia/Africa. However, it had arrived in the Americas prior to Columbus, presumably over the northern land bridge where Native Americans are believed to have migrated during the last glacial period.

In Ancient times it had essentially spread globally.
