Potatoes were brought back to Ireland and the rest of Europe from the "New World", South America, upon their discovery by European explorers. Potatoes were not found anywhere in Europe, Asia or Africa until they were imported.

Ireland became dependent on potatoes after their importation to Europe largely because it was a poor country and potatoes grow quickly and easily in many different climates.

The potato came from south America. In the 16th century, about 1570, Spanish explorers would have brought it back to Europe. It began to become established in parts of Europe in the later part of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century. About 1589 Walter Raleigh would have first brought it to Ireland. It would have been the late 18th century, about 1780, before it really began to become a significant crop in Ireland.

All potatoes did not come from Ireland. The potato is not native to Ireland, or indeed any part of Europe. Potatoes came from South America to Europe during the times of the great exploration of that part of the world. They grew particularly well in Ireland and they became a very popular crop, and still are to this day. As they were brought to Ireland, there is no potato that came from Ireland and so to answer your question, every type of potato did not come from Ireland.
