Where did the taliban origanate?

The Taliban originated / came to power during Afghanistan's long civil war in 1996. Immediately, Taliban forbade women and children to go to work and school. Then followed a series of rules and regulations.

They are in Afghanistan, their home country. The USA interfered with Afghanistan in the 1970s. The democratically elected government was improving education for both boys and girls, and bringing in other social reforms. So the US supplied weapons to some gangs. The government asked Russia for help and Russia did so. The US supplied high tech weapons in exchange for drugs. The Russians moved out. The Afghan government collapsed and the country was split up amongst the gangs (warlords). The Taliban were a gang of religious fundamentalists. They took power and began freeing Afghanistan of drugs. The people welcomed that. But then the Taliban banned music, education, and killed a lot of women. Now the US is supplying weapons to some gangs again and the drugs are back. So you can blame the USA, as usual (see Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Haiti, and so on). When the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan during the cold war, the US supplied weapons to the Mujahideen. This, and the better knowledge of terrain allowed the Afghans to repel the Soviet invaders. However, the US weapons enabled the Taliban to take over the country. ------------ Charlie Wilson's war is a good book (and a movie) detailing the American involvment. "Taliban" means "students" from the Arabic word "talib".
