guru comes from Sikhism which is related to India. so it could be an Indian name. but guru is also a name from the Hebrew language. Islam has nothing to do with it. nor does Christianity. a lot of the time if something has guru in it, it is either Sikh or Hindu (mainly Sikh)

Sikhism came in the world as an advancement in spiritual aspect as per the modern and advanced world and to free the mindset of common man from the traditions where the religion is just to worship some human created sculpture as IDOL., it has given a way of life, which by itself helps the individual to grow spiritually . Started by guru NANAK dev, brought a revolution which had uplifted the common Indian at that time who was under the continuous pressures of attacks by neighboring attackers. Sikhism first upbrought them spiritually as a community, which then was transformed into social and political fields in the form of people which can stand for truth and betterment of community.

These are still upholding true in the firm of those few who are still holding the guru nanak's path.

Why do Sikhs carry the guru granth sahib over their head?

The Guru Granth Sahib is a living Guru and must be treated with respect. The Guru Granth Sahib is carried over ones head as a sign of respect. A Guru Granth Sahib usually has a bedroom or resting area in any Gurdwara. If a Guru Granth Sahib is kept at home it must be placed in the highest room in a house. It would be totally unacceptable to find a Guru Granth Sahib in a library for example. Hope this helps
