Unscrew the cap on top of the pump which is located on the firewall. There is a guage under the lid.
[EDIT] For safety reasons do this when the engine has cooled down for at least 1/2 an hour since it is a pressurized system.
Mixing hydraulic fluid types will damage the seals in the steering system and cause them to leak.
Fill the system by using the reservoir mounted on the back of the engine bay to the left of the power steering fluid reservoir.
The Power Steering Pump is electrically driven and it's mounted down below next to the steer rack. The fluid reservoir is up on the firewall at about engine height with two hoses that drop down to the power steering pump.
as far as i know you cant put power steering in any classic/old mini 1959 to 2000 but this is unnecessary as they have light steering anyway/
Using the wrong power steering fluid on a mini can cause all kinds of problems. The car might steer differently, or the fluid could leak or damage the steering rack and pump.
Everyone knows that proper mini coopers don't have power steering If you mean one of those terrible BMW's then the pump has to run all the time, if your pump stops working, then your power steering stops working.
yes, but driving at slow speeds will be very difficult.
Check to make sure the serpentine belt is still in place.
on the 08 mini cooper, it is behind passenger fog light.or on the steering wheel
In the transmission.
